Mochizuki-san was the adopted son of the great Mochizuki Kinpo, who was highly regarded, trained by Shijo School masters, and whose pieces were purchased multiple times by the Imperial Household. They both spent many years in Hokkaido (northern Japan) and were able to regularly study and compose pieces depicting heavy snowfalls, -which did not occur in their other city of residence, Tokyo, where they achieved most of their success.

Japanese photographers and people in general love the charming image of sparrows in the snow (2nd last picture, from Japan). The last photo shows a painting of Mochizuki-san's from the fine art publication, "Bijutsu Gaho" of December, 1912. He exhibited regularly, and his prestige as a painter leads us to believe that his somewhat early death may have come some time soon after his last recognition in exhibition (1926). His cause and date of death have not been kept in public record and was probably destroyed in the bombings of Tokyo in WWII.

22" x 75".
