Mochida Takujin - 持田卓人(1906- 1995)
Mochida-san was born Nambu Town in the Saihaku district of Tottori. His love of painting brought him to study under the great Tomita Keisen at the Kyoto City University of the arts, from which he graduated in 1925. He was first selected to show in exhibition in 1929 and became a regular contributor throughout his fairly long life. During the war, he was dispatched as a military painter for the Osaka newspaper the Asahi Shinbun. He devoted much of his later years as a master at the Chiyoda and Hosai Schools of Painting. He is held in the Tottori Prefectural Museum and other fine collections.
A very nice size that impresses with its humility, serenity, balance and elegance.
Masterful techniques of bleeding and infusing various gradations of sumi-e ink are on full display here. Excellent condition (bit of light foxing on verso).
This piece is ideal and auspicious for inner calm, meditation and contemplation.
